After earning his MFA in screenwriting from Chapman University, Charles began his career in reality television, rising from Production Coordinator to Writer/Co-Producer across two seasons of Knockout, a boxing docu-series produced and distributed by FUSE and streamed on HULU. He recently wrote, produced, and co-directed the psychological thriller Caiman (streaming on Amazon). His other credits include Man (streaming on Tubi) and Young Ali (streaming on Amazon and winner of Best Feature at Berlin Indie Film Festival). He also co-produced the feature Three Worlds, currently available on AppleTV+, Amazon.
Charles runs a script consulting business, "Smash To:" where he offers project consulting, ghost-writing, and script analysis. His clients have included companies like Bad Robot, Yotta Games (Mafia City) and creatives such as Andrew Gordon (former creative director at Pixar), Mickey Capoferri (Senior Director of Content & Programming at Lucasfilm), and actor Ryan Bathe (Boston Legal, This is Us).
Outside of Film and TV, Charles is co-creator of DARE, a graphic novel produced by Laguna Studios and set to hit shelves in 2025.
Now based in Chicago, Charles brings his passion for storytelling into the classroom, having taught screenwriting at DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago, Roosevelt University, Flashpoint, and Chicago Filmmakers.
