Catherine Owens is the director-writer for her third feature film, the award-winning Killer Surf (in development). Her screenplay has been recognized by the LA Independent Women Film Awards, the Miami Indie Film Awards, the Depth of Field International Film Festival and the Boobs & Blood International Film Festival for breast cancer awareness and many other well-esteemed screenplay festivals.
Cathy has also written the award-winning sequel Killer Surf 2: Still Alive in Hawaii. Her surfing-related fiction short film Surf Detroit has earned many accolades on the festival circuit. Cathy's second feature directorial effort (Turning Home) is streaming in the US (2022).
Catherine was voted Top Ten Fresh Director by Shorts International for her original short film Surf Detroit, which also won Best Film in the Detroit-Windsor Film Festival, as well as the Best of Michigan Award by the Michigan Film Commission.
While in the USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate program, she was nominated for the DGA Best Student Director and the Student Emmy Awards. She won several scholarships and various accolades from USC for Directing, such as the peer-selected Vagabond Project and other advanced directing opportunities.
Cathy currently is working on a planned series of Killer Sports fun-filled, horror films in between the real life horrors of being a stay-at-home mom during a pandemic.
Catherine Owens graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the prestigious University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Film Production.
