Candy Renae Fox is a Cree actress and film director from Piapot First Nation in Treaty 4 Territory, Saskatchewan. She has acted off and on for about 15 years, beginning in film and television. She was the lead actress in the television series Moccasin Flats as well as the film Moccasin Flats: Redemption, where she was honoured with the award for best actress by the American Indian Film Festival in 2008. She has recently performed in the Saskatchewan produced play Making Treaty Four. Her recent film credits include the feature film The Sabbatical and the short Gas Can. Candy obtained a degree in film production from the University of Regina in 2015. Her fourth year documentary film Backroads premiered at Canada’s Top Ten Film festival in 2015 and was named Best Student film at the Saskatchewan Independent Film awards. That year she was also nominated for the Ruth Shaw award for Best of Saskatchewan and named one of Saskatchewan's Future 40 by CBC. She is a recent alumnus of the National Screen Institute’s IndigiDocs program where she directed her most recent film, ahkâmêyimo nitânis (Keep Going, My Daughter) that premiered at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary festival.
