CINEphil_101 International Philosophy Film Festival begins its journey in Heraklion, Crete, in May 2025. It is the only philosophy film festival in Greece and one of the few in the world focusing on the ongoing dialogue between philosophy and contemporary film. Through its competition section of international feature films in the category of philosophy film, an animation section curated by the organizers of Animasyros festival and the special Q&A screenings «Philosophers meet Film» and «Filmmakers meet the Public», CINEphil_101 aspires to promote film as a medium that can raise and explore philosophical issues of great importance for human existence, individual and collective, while offering a platform of exchange between directors, philosophers and the audience. In addition to its main screenings, the festival programme includes selected short films of the secondary school competition “Young Cine-philosophers”, educational workshops for children and teenagers, as well as cultural events in the city of Heraklion and the archaeological site of Knossos.
CINEphil_101 is organized by the Philosophy Department of the University of Crete and the not-for-profit cultural organization HE.art (Heraklion Art), in collaboration with the Region of Crete.
We invite international filmmakers to submit their films to the competition section of the festival by 31 March 2025. CINEphil_101 accepts only submission of feature films (fiction) in the category of philosophical cinema. You can submit your film electronically via FilmFreeway. There is no submission fee.
