Christopher Ellis is a Utah-based filmmaker who wrote, directed, edited, and created all VFX for his sci-fi adventure film Thinking in Portals. The film, which follows two friends who accidentally travel between dimensions using a homemade portal device, served as Christopher's capstone project in his Directing class at Salt Lake Community College, where he earned his AAS in Film Production.
For Thinking in Portals, Christopher pushed the boundaries of independent VFX, creating volumetric portals, AI-generated cityscapes, and a fully sculpted and animated 3D creature using Blender and Unreal Engine, along with extensive rotoscoping and compositing. The film premiered at Salt Lake Community College's Student Film Festival, where it won Best Production Design, Best Director, and Best Picture.
Christopher's work demonstrates a passion for combining practical storytelling with visual effects to create immersive sci-fi experiences on an independent budget.
