Our festival encourages bold and innovative approaches to photography and storytelling, pushing boundaries and enhancing our collective understanding of the visual world and its rich narratives.
Submissions can include, but are not limited to:
• Photographic works offering unique and insightful visual perspectives.
• Narratives documenting the journeys and experiences of photographers.
• Films directed by photographers presenting a distinctive cinematic interpretation of photography.
• Documentaries critically examining the history or societal impact of photography.
• Multimedia projects that integrate photography with other art forms, creating cohesive and impactful narratives.
> Submission Details
• Early Bird Deadline: May 31, 2025 (€10 submission fee).
• General Deadline: August 17, 2025 (€20 submission fee).
> All submissions must:
• Films must engage deeply with photography as an art form.
• Must be completed after January 1, 2023.
• Non-English films must include English subtitles.
Bucharest Photofest prioritizes films from emerging filmmakers and projects that present fresh perspectives or highlight underrepresented regions and narratives. Selected films will have the opportunity to gain visibility within a culturally rich and dedicated international audience.
By submitting your film to Bucharest Photofest 2025, you confirm your agreement to the festival's rules and regulations. Inclusion in the program grants the festival the rights outlined above.
> Rules and Regulations
• Bucharest Photofest accepts short, medium, or feature-length films that engage deeply with photography as an art form. We welcome works that address a broad range of themes related to photography, including its social, cultural, or artistic dimensions.
• Selected films should demonstrate strong cinematic qualities and reflect the director’s unique vision, both in content and form. Particular attention will be given to films that present fresh perspectives, whether through storytelling or visual expression.
• By submitting a film, applicants grant Bucharest Photofest the right to use the materials provided (film information, director, synopsis, promotional stills, etc.) for press releases, catalogs, website content, and other promotional materials if the film is selected. The accuracy of all submitted information is the responsibility of the applicant.
> Selection Process
Applicants will be informed of the selection results by August 22, 2025. Once a film is selected and screening rights are agreed upon, the film cannot be withdrawn from the program. Bucharest Photofest reserves the right to use trailers (up to 3 minutes) and promotional materials related to the director(s) or film for festival promotion. The festival organizers retain full discretion over the scheduling and programming of selected films.
