I have had the opportunity to work in many fields and industries primarily because I strive to learn, to absorb the lessons of life in order to grow and mature...attain wisdom.
I feel that it is because of this process, experiencing life, that in my late fifties I was able to write The Xeno Manifesto trilogies (novels) a story that originally began as a screenplay but morphed into three well received novels.
From there things progressed. I was referred by the President of a film association to a reputable European film company who were looking for a Canadian writer to re-write the story lines for two feature films. I accomplished this successfully and from there I was hooked.
I converted the plots for several novels I had into screenplays which were well received by my peers and it was suggested I should bring these stories to life myself because "I had a good eye". So I purchased all my own film equipment, used of course and dived in starting with the short film I wrote titled "The Price Tag".
"The Price Tag" was shot entirely in the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta. I was drawn to this location by the wide array of graffiti art through out this urban center...what a superb back drop.
Making "The Price Tag" has been a great learning curve that has been time consuming, bewildering at times, expensive, a questioning..."what the heck am I doing" process that has been so enlightening and enjoyable and I loved it!
Fortunately for me I was so lucky to have such a great Medicine Hat crew by my side for this endeavor and others in the "Hat" who have supported me in a manner of ways throughout this project...to all of them, I am eternally grateful.
I thought shooting it was tough but then editing and sound...wow! Again, so fortunate for the help of two great individuals based out of Vancouver.
So here is where it starts, with "The Price Tag", a movie I wrote and shot for me...that I hope will entertain others.
