Elles Tournent, the association founded in Brussels in 2008, is dedicated to promoting and supporting women* in cinema. Faced with the observation that women* are less likely to be selected and visible at international festivals, Elles Tournent created its own festival, the Brussels International Women's Film Festival (BIWFF). Now in its 18th edition, the BIWFF has established itself as a leading festival honouring female directors from Belgium and around the world.
In order to represent the diversity of women's creative work, the festival promotes cultural plurality, different feminist approaches and a variety of film formats (feature films and short films, documentaries and fiction, all genres).

The BIWFF pays particular attention to:
original films in which female directors have a critical and sharp look at society, discrimination and current political events, reflecting the empowerment and agency of women and minority populations, as well as genre films in categories where female directors are still under-represented (science fiction, fantasy, thriller, etc.).

The BIWFF programme includes around fifteen screenings, attended by most of the directors of the selected feature films, followed by a discussion with the audience.

Films can be submitted to the BIWFF 2026 in the following categories: see section categories and fees

  • Attending the Brussels International Women’s Film Festival with our film Inanimate Objects was a truly inspiring and memorable experience. We were honored to have our work included in a festival that so powerfully celebrates women’s voices and perspectives in cinema.

The festival created an atmosphere that was both welcoming and intellectually engaging. The screenings were thoughtfully curated, and the discussions that followed were rich, open, and meaningful. It was incredibly valuable not only to present our film to such an attentive and generous audience, but also to connect with other filmmakers whose work challenges, moves, and expands contemporary storytelling.
Julia and I were especially touched by the warmth of the festival team and the sense of community throughout the event. Brussels provided a vibrant and beautiful backdrop for conversations about art, representation, and creative courage. We are deeply grateful to the Brussels International Women’s Film Festival for including Inanimate Objects in their program and for creating such an empowering platform for filmmakers.
