Bruno Canel immigrated to Canada in 2016 from his hometown of Alagoas, Brazil, with a dream to channel his passion for storytelling and filmmaking into meaningful work. After earning a diploma in Television and Video Production from BCIT, Bruno has dedicated himself to his passion for writing, directing, and producing.
Bruno's approach to the industry is shaped by his hands-on experience across various departments, including Locations, Health and Safety, and Set Decoration. This multidisciplinary background reflects his commitment to understanding the complexities of the industry, enabling him to bring artistic visions to life while navigating the practical realities of production.
As a queer Latino landed immigrant, and a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, Bruno is acutely aware of the challenges that underrepresented creators face in the film industry. Despite these barriers, his determination has earned recognition, including a grant from The Canada Council for the Arts to produce "Purple". This screenplay has been in his mind for almost two decades and holds special significance, driven by the belief that storytelling can foster understanding and drive change.
