The Blood Moon Horror Festival takes place every year on Halloween in Randburg, South Africa. This year the event will be held at the Workspace in Blackheath where selected films will be screened to our audiences and judges.

The festival offers the opportunity for young and upcoming filmmakers to submit their films and scripts and have the opportunity to be screened and feedback given by our judges.

The festival is a hybrid event and some films will be screened online with a select few being to chosen to be screened in person at our venue in Blackheath.

The festival awards on offer:
Best Cinematography
Best Sound Design
Best Editing
Best Production Design
Best Costume Design
Best Screenplay
Best Director
Best Film

Winners will be published on our website after the conclusion of the event.

All films/screenplays must be Horror or Thriller as genres or sub-genres. Documentaries are welcome as long as they fit the brief (think Blair Witch Project).

You are allowed to submit more than one film, however, you cannot submit the same film more than once...if your film is rejected or disqualified you may not resubmit unless the Blood Moon Horror Festival specifically asks you to resubmit for any reason.

This is a Horror festival as a result, no under-18s will be allowed in the venue for any of the screenings.

The festival organisers may disqualify/not include any film or script for reasons such as explicit content, excessive violence or any other reason at the discretion of the organisers.
