The festival is a showcase of films in all genres by young emerging filmmakers.

The Bison Bison Film Festival is open to filmmakers enrolled in accredited colleges, universities and trade schools in mid-America (Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas and Texas).

All works must be 40 minutes or less in length, including titles and credits. Any film exceeding this limit will not be considered. No works in progress. Incomplete entries are ineligible.

The work must have been created within the past two years, and the filmmaker must have been an enrolled student at the time.

A jury panel made up of film professionals will make festival film selections and determine the award recipients. The Festival will be held at the Historic Poncan Theatre in Ponca City, Oklahoma on March 30, 2018.

Awards & Prizes

All awards are determined by the jury panel. Results of the awards will be announced at an awards ceremony taking place at the end of the festival run. The jury panel will award three Awards of Excellence of $1,000 each, plus an additional “Filmed in Ponca City” award, should there be a film that qualifies for such. All genres of films will be accepted to the competition. There will not be separate categories for awards. All entries must be submitted by either the Director or Producer of the work.

Entry Fee: $30 (Early Bird Fee $25 before Friday, December 22, 2017)

Notice of Acceptance: Thursday, March 1, 2018

FILMS SUBMITTED BY FILMMAKERS NOT ENROLLED IN AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED.

THEMES AND SUBJECT MATTER

The festival values all forms of entertainment and does not wish to impose any limits or forms of censorship. However, we do look for work that: Highlights stories that affect or relate to one’s community, provokes a response on pertinent issues, tells an innovative and original story, displays a personal message that the storyteller wants to impart on an audience, pushes the boundaries of the medium in an innovative manner, and demonstrates overall solid storytelling and mastery of the genre utilized and/or showcases and provides a forum for discussion.

TECHNICAL GUIDELINES

Each individual or team can submit no more than 1 entry. All entries must have been made in the past two years. We will disqualify films that contain unauthorized copyrighted material will be disqualified.

If your film is selected to be shown at the festival you will be required to provide a DVD copy of your film no later than March 7th. You will be notified of your films film’s selection to be shown no later than March 1st.

SPECIAL "FILMED IN PONCA CITY" AWARD

Must be filmed at least 50% in Ponca City. The BBFF Board of Directors will determine which films have complied with this, and then jurors will use the above selection criteria to determine the award.

Their communication is excellent. They also provide great workshops for anyone getting started in the industry. It's 100% worth the entry fee.
