Bisi Alimi is an “Angelic Troublemaker Incarnate” PASSIONATE public speaker, policy analyst, television pundit, campaigner and social media influencer and a prophet of Intersectionality.

Bisi’s expertise in Social Justice ranges from Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity to Race and Race Relations, Feminism, Education and Poverty Alleviation

He is is the founder and Director of The Bisi Alimi Foundation and Vengiance Productions

Alimi has a Bachelors degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos in Nigeria, in 2004. Close to the end of degree, he had a breakthrough as a lead character in one of Nigeria's primetime television soaps; “Roses and Thorns”

In 2011, he obtained his Masters from Birkbeck College, University of London in Global Governance and Public policy.

Alimi was the first Nigerian to openly declare his sexuality on national television in 2004 and this led to threats to his life, an end to his acting career and his resulting move to the United Kingdom where he was a refugee until December 2014 when he was granted British citizenship.
Still driven by his passion for his first love; acting, Alimi started Vengiance Productions, with focus on producing queer African films, documentaries, podcasts and theatre.
Alimi is working on his first short film “Shall We Meet Tonight” as producer. A project funded by the BFI and British Council. He will also be producing a full length documentary “Twenty Years Later”- a documentary about his coming out 20 years ago and the impact it has on the Nigeria society.

His LGBT and HIV activism made him one of the most powerful voices on the continent of Africa. In Europe, his advocacy around; race, gender identity and sexuality orientation has made him a household name and a leading black queer thinker.

He has featured in many creative works ranging from podcating to documentary. He played a leading role in “Tom Daley; Illegal to be me” as well as Joe Cohen’s “Above the troubled water”
Alimi has many laurels for his work globally. As part of the British Institute LGBT Film Festival, the British Council named him as one of the 33 Inspiring individuals promoting freedom and equality globally. In 2015 he was listed in the top 20 most Influential UK LGBT persons. He was also named to the TRUE AFRICA 100-lists for 2015, for his work on HIV and LGBT rights in Africa.

He consulted for the World Bank on the Economic impact of Homophobia and served on the Bank advisory board on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. He was a 2014 New Voices fellow at the Aspen Institute and alumni of The Moth. He has been listed four years in a row on the UK LGBT list and was named 77 on the World Pride Power List 2014 and 80 IN 2015.
