Bianca Rêgo recently finished her master’s in fine arts at ESTC in Portugal. She directed several short films that were screened at over 150 film festivals and art galleries worldwide and won 14 prizes in total.
Bianca Rêgo is a 30-year-old audiovisual artist from Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil. She graduated with honors in Film and Audiovisual Studies from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi. Her education is further strengthened by a solid academic and research trajectory: she completed a Master’s degree in Film, specializing in Film Directing, at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, and attended as a special graduate student at the University of São Paulo (USP), where she completed the postgraduate courses “Aspects of the Film Essay” and “History of the Autobiographical Documentary in the United States,” both with top marks. Her research focuses on the essay film and female autobiographical narratives — themes that permeate both her artistic production and her participation in academic conferences and scientific publications.
Since her first undergraduate research project, presented at conferences such as INTERCOM (Brazil’s largest communication studies conference) and published in e-books by the Cabíria Festival, Forcine, and Cinecipó, Bianca has been developing an authorial reflection on the representation of femininity in audiovisual media. She has participated in important academic events such as the IX Audiovisual University Week at UFF, the III Digital Networks Conference at PUC-Campinas, and academic events at CEFET-MG. Over the past ten years, she has continuously worked as a director and editor, developing a sensitive and experimental approach that has made her the most awarded filmmaker of her generation in her hometown.
Bianca has directed and written seven short films, most notably the award-winning “Diagrama do Útero” (2014), an essay film composed of archival footage that examines the construction of femininity throughout the twentieth century. The film was screened at 34 national and international festivals — from Russia to Brazil — and received multiple awards, including Best Use of Archival Material at the REcine Festival (Rio de Janeiro), 3rd place in the Experimental category at MAUAL (Mato Grosso), and 2nd place at the University Showcase of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (Minas Gerais). Her subsequent works — Sinfonia em 10kHz, What Makes a Good Party, Silêncio, MPB – Matança Popular Brasileira, Sonhei com Covid, and Áudios de Casa — have collectively received over 150 selections at film festivals across four continents, earning 14 awards and honorable mentions, and screenings on platforms such as Cardume and Globoplay.
She has experience facilitating cultural workshops and artistic interventions in Europe, working with diverse audiences through NGOs such as IDC (France) and DIH (Slovenia). She has actively participated in cultural exchanges and European Union-funded training programs in more than ten countries, addressing themes such as art, activism, performance, photography, decoloniality, and gender — including the exchange “Political Picassos” in Dublin, Ireland, focused on the intersection of art and politics, and the two-part exchange “Gender-Sensitive Approach in Youth Work,” held in Spain and Latvia.
In Brazil, Bianca has been involved in community work since adolescence. She volunteered as a hospital clown with the group “Além do Riso” in Mogi das Cruzes, taught flute to public school children through FANCAB, and volunteered at APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children) in Mogi das Cruzes. Her practice has consistently engaged projects that connect art, education, and civic engagement.
As a communicator, Bianca has collaborated with Mundo Estranho magazine (Editora Abril), the NGO Repórter Brasil (a national reference in combating modern slavery), the websites Allmanaque and Cinerama, RedeTV!, the company Digidom, and the YouTube channel Sintonia Fina. Since 2017, she has worked as a freelance videomaker for small and large companies, including Via Varejo (the holding company of Casas Bahia and Ponto Frio retail chains). She is also a member of the Arts & Culture Working Group, representing Latin America in the United Nations Civil Society Arts, Culture and Faith-based Solutions ImPACT Coalition for the UN Civil Society Conference.
Her work has been recognized by several public funding programs. In Mogi das Cruzes, she was awarded funding through the Paulo Gustavo Law (2023), the Cultural Projects Grant (2020), the digital showcase Movi.ar (during the pandemic), and the Cultural Scholarship Grant (2024) in partnership with producer Lethicia Galo. She was also selected for the “Curta em Casa” program, promoted by Instituto Criar and Projeto Paradiso, as well as for Call 02/2020 from the São Paulo Municipal Department of Culture.
Her trajectory demonstrates not only technical and artistic excellence, but also an ethical and political commitment to expanding access to culture, audiovisual education, and strengthening female, peripheral, and dissident voices within cinema and beyond.
