The festival honors the legacy of Black August and the Black Arts Movement, liberatory actions that understood storytelling as a form of liberation.

This was my first time attending the BAM Film Festival. I had a blast! The thoughtfulness and intention behind the theme of Inheritance was felt and shown from the display table in the front of the theater to the panels to the history mentioned about Black August. I learned a lot and glad to witness the diversity of Black artists. Salute!

This was an amazing year for the BAM Film Festival. It has grown tremendously from screening just a few films the previous year to showing 40+ films from all over the diaspora. The thoughtful panel discussions and the filmmaker's lounge provided great moments have conversations and connect with other filmmakers. It was beautiful to see the hard work everyone put into the festival. Much love to the organizers!
