Apertura Institute and TAB-LAB Lisboa are excited to announce an open call for short films that showcase the intersection of photography and film. This screening will be an opportunity to showcase the diverse and innovative ways that filmmakers incorporate photographic elements into their work.

We are seeking short films that explore the relationship between photography and film, whether it's through the use of still photographs, photographic techniques in film, or the incorporation of photographic themes into narrative or experimental works. We welcome submissions from all genres, including documentary, narrative, experimental, and animation.

Films must be no longer than 30 minutes in length and should be submitted digitally with a link to an online screener.

Selected films will be showcased in a public screening event, alongside an evening of print-making in the TAB-LAB Darkroom. This event is open to the public and will be promoted through social media and other outlets.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions and showcasing the ways in which photography and film intersect in exciting and innovative ways.

O Instituto Apertura e o TAB-LAB Lisboa têm o prazer de anunciar um convite aberto a curtas-metragens que mostrem a intersecção entre a fotografia e o cinema. Esta sessão será uma oportunidade para mostrar as diversas e inovadoras formas como os realizadores incorporam elementos fotográficos no seu trabalho.

Procuramos curtas-metragens que explorem a relação entre a fotografia e o cinema, quer seja através da utilização de fotografias fixas, de técnicas fotográficas no cinema ou da incorporação de temas fotográficos em obras narrativas ou experimentais. Aceitamos inscrições de todos os géneros, incluindo documentário, narrativa, experimental e animação.

Os filmes não devem ter mais de 30 minutos de duração e devem ser enviados digitalmente com um link para um ecrã online.

Os filmes seleccionados serão exibidos num evento de projecção pública, juntamente com uma noite de impressão na câmara escura do TAB-LAB. Este evento é aberto ao público e será promovido através das redes sociais e outros meios de comunicação.

Estamos ansiosos por analisar as vossas candidaturas e mostrar as formas como a fotografia e o cinema se cruzam de maneiras excitantes e inovadoras.

Rules & Terms

1. Eligibility: The festival is open to filmmakers of all levels, both amateur and professional.

2. Submission Format: Films must be submitted in digital format only, preferably in MP4, MOV, or AVI format, and should be no longer than 30 minutes in length.

3. Deadline: All entries must be submitted by the 31st of May.

4. Selection Process: The festival committee will select the films to be screened at the festival. The decisions of the committee are final.

6. Notification: Filmmakers whose films are selected for screening will be notified via email by June 3rd.

7. Publicity: By submitting a film, the filmmaker grants permission to the festival to use images and excerpts from the film for promotional purposes.

8. Copyright: The filmmaker must hold all necessary copyrights for the film and all its elements, including music and images.

9. Screening Rights: The filmmaker grants permission to the festival to screen the film at the festival and in any subsequent festival-related events (promotional excerpts on social media, documentation for archive purposes).

10. Liability: The festival is not responsible for any loss or damage to submitted films.

11. Festival Rights: The festival reserves the right to make any necessary changes to the festival format or schedule at any time.

12. Final Cut: The festival reserves the right to edit and adjust submitted films as needed for screening purposes (without adjusting the film's artistic integrity).

14. Withdrawal: Filmmakers may withdraw their submissions at any time by sending a written request to the festival committee.

By submitting a film, the filmmaker agrees to all the above rules and terms.

10. Responsabilidade: O festival não é responsável por qualquer perda ou dano aos filmes submetidos.

11. Direitos do Festival: O festival reserva-se o direito de fazer quaisquer alterações necessárias ao formato ou ao calendário do festival a qualquer momento.

12. Corte final: O festival reserva-se o direito de editar e ajustar os filmes apresentados conforme necessário para fins de exibição (sem ajustar a integridade artística do filme).

14. Retirada: Os realizadores podem retirar as suas inscrições a qualquer momento, enviando um pedido por escrito ao comité do festival.

Ao submeter um filme, o cineasta concorda com todas as regras e termos acima mencionados.

    Very introverted event. Without any communication or invitation to the screening. No hello, no thank you, no goodbye. No photos from the event, no impressions, nothing.

As we are organised by a team of 1 person at the moment, all our documentation and video footage from the event can be found on Instagram, @aperturainstitute - and will be shared on the website before this August. Additionally, we would've been very happy to discuss this via email but did not receive any correspondence from you addressing these concerns.
