Ann Hearn Tobolowsky, an actor turned stage director, has spent much of the last 18 years directing Los Angeles theatre, from the classics to new plays with playwrights near and far. A regular at The Road Theatre Company and Theatre 40, she spent the first year of the pandemic planning and rehearsing the project Reykjavik by one of her favorite playwrights Steve Yockey. With the Road Theatre, they rehearsed the actors while quarantined and masked, had a few rehearsals on the theatre set created for the project, one day of rehearsal with cameras and one day of shooting the play (without an audience). The production had a limited streaming as part of the theatre’s virtual season in May of 2021.
Ann has collaborated (among others) with local LA playwrights Jami Brandli, Wendy Graf, Shem Bitterman, Steve Apostolina, and Joe Correll frequently, including working with Jami on her latest play with Center Theatre Group's L.A. Writers’ Workshop Festival 2022. A believer in all forms of story-telling and the communal experience of film and theatre, collaborative creating remains her mission.
