Animadeba is an animated film festival that will be held from September 6 to 9 in the town of Deba, a coastal town in the Basque Country ( north of the Spain ).
Animadeba takes 16 years, but it is the third edition of the International Animation Short Film Competition.

– Official Section

All the films that take part in the Official Section will be awarded €500 prize money for having been selected. This amount will be paid at the end of the festival through a bill.
The amount will be subject to deductions in accordance with current legislation at the time payment by the Festival Organization is made, and shall be considered as a part of the aforementioned prizes.

The directors of the selected short films hereby undertake to attend the festival on the showing days. If they are unable to attend, another member of the team must attend on their behalf (preferably director, producer and/or screenwriter). In case a representative of the selected short film cannot attend, the payment per selection will be €150.

All selected short films will be eligible for the official festival awards.

The award winners hereby undertake to mention the award received at the Animadeba Short Film Festival at any subsequent screenings of the film.

- New Director UPV-EHU

The films that participate in the New Directors Section will receive €50 as payment per selection and will be able to opt for the UPV-EHU New Directors Award – Diploma + €500.

- Panorama Section

The films that participate in the Panorama Section will receive €50 as payment for selection.

1. Participation

Any animated short film could be submitted for participation in the competition regardless of the genre, theme or country of origin, on condition that it was made after 1st January 2022.

The films must not have been previously presented at this competition.

The films must be submitted by the person holding the legitimate rights over them, or somebody who holds due power of representation.

2. Requirements

A digital projection format will be used:
.MOV – Apple ProRes 422 ( HQ )
MPEG-4. H264

Audio AAC

The duration of the films must not exceed 20 minutes, including credits.

Any short films submitted to the competition that are not in Spanish language, must be subtitled in it.

The person who submits the short film to the contest will be responsible for paying the royalties that arise from showing the films.

3. Online registration

Short films submitted to the contest must be only submitted via the following platform: www.filmfreeway.com

There are no charges for registering films in the festival.

The deadline for submitting films is 1th May 2023.

The organizers will contact all the selected competitors to request the projection file. The final day for sending in the projection files, in compliance with the aforementioned technical specifications, will be 18st June 2023.

4. Screening

Selected films will be shown during the times and at the places defined in the catalogue and on the official website www.animadeba.com

During the contest the organization reserves the right to show selected films at as many public sessions as deemed suitable. Concerning this matter, the holder of the rights over the selected films must grant rights for public screenings of the films for the entire duration of the Festival, without charging the organizers any fees for this.

The University of the Basque Country, a Festival partner, will hold a free screening of the selected short films at one of its venues during the academic year.

5. Selection Committee and Official Panel of Judges

The selection committee, comprising professionals from the audiovisual arts industry and the organization, will be in charge of selecting the films that will be included in the official section of the competition.

The Official Panel of Judges, comprising professionals from the film, culture and communications fields will be in charge of granting prizes, and their decision will be final.

6. Prizes and Awards

6.1 – Official Section

6.2 - New Director UPV-EHU

The films that participate in the New Directors Section will receive €50 as payment per selection and will be able to opt for the UPV-EHU New Directors Award – Diploma + €500.

6.3- Panorama Section

The films that participate in the Panorama Section will receive €50 as payment for selection.

7. Catalogue and Documentation

The documents requested by the festival for the official catalogue, programme guide and website (synopsis, biography and filmography, artistic and technical sheet, photographs of the director and film, trailers and other audiovisual material) will be taken from the online registration form which must be completed before 1th May 2023. If any additional material is required, the Festival will request it for delivery before 18th June 2023.

8. About copyright

Work containing pre-existing images and/or sound will be accepted.

The organization is not responsible for any original third party rights, which will be the full liability of the participants.

9. Acceptance of the rules

Registering a film for the 16th Deba International Animation Film Festival - Animadeba - entails full acceptance of and compliance with these Participation Rules.

In the event of any situations arising not considered by these rules, the organizers of Animadeba Festival will resolve the matter.
