From New York City, born in Harlem and raised in Washington Heights, Amir began his acting career at the age of two, chosen by a director when his mother was forced to bring him to the set of her own acting gig. After securing an agent, he immediately began appearing in commercials. At the age of six, he landed his first reoccurring role on a television show, A Different World. After some stage plays and tv movies, Amir took on the role of Jamal Wilson-Cudahy on the hit soap opera, All My children, and continued working in every medium - tv movies and drama series, operas, even voicing a character on the cartoon show, Daria. He graduated from the prestigious Professional Performing Arts School, home to such alumni as Alicia Keys, Claire Danes and Jessie Esinburg. Then, after over ten years away from the spotlight, Amir made his directing debut on stage in 2016 with The Diary of a Mother by Yonkers playwright Hope Hollinsworth-Coaxum. In 2017, he released his first novel, Flame of Retribution, inspired by the 2006 police shooting of Sean Bell. In 2019 he published his second book, The Bates Theory: A Guide to Overcoming Toxic Mothers and Male Co-Dependency. In 2023, Amir made his film directing debut with the release of his short film, Stranger I Know, available on YouTube by Dei Gratia Productions.
