Neither tricky camera movements, nor big budget, nor elaborate special effects can nourish what the soul longs for. Meaning is what creates emotion. Emotion is created by distinctive, unique stories that touch us directly and instinctively. Stories that are intimate and have inner greatness. Stories that cannot be fully represented by a headline or a personal data sheet. We want to move images to move feelings and thoughts. Feelings that grab you and make you still. The basis for this is a precise script waiting for the camera. After all, the poetry of a film travels through the heart into the head. And not because smart academics think the film is somehow politically important. A film stays in our memory through emotion. It becomes a part of ourselves because it is we ourselves who find ourselves on the screen. Our desire, our dreaming, our fantasizing. That is the true drama of good stories.
