I’ve directed various theatre productions and workshops and I’ve been a professional actor for over twenty years. My first short film The Idea lead to a couple of meetings at the BBC and I was creative consultant to Armand Assante on two feature films. I also coach professional actors. In Plain Sight is my second short narrative film.
Most recently, before In Plain Sight, I co created and co produced a t.v pilot sitcom called Simply Ken starring Jeffery Holland.
I am currently writing a feature length script A Midnight Sun (working title) set in the 90’s and plan to shoot my third short this year called ‘Character’. ‘
Character’ will be much more visual than In Plain Sight and in large part is a kind of discourse on the divergences and similarities between an actress called Karin, who is the daughter of the Swedish Ambassador to the UK and a film role she is playing called Jessica, who is also an actress. In a film within a film we watch as Jessica is brutally knifed to death by a couple of low ranking mobsters in a mistaken identity on her way to an audition to play a street sex worker called Autumn, intercut with Karin’s preparations for the role.
My script explores the dangers and high emotional stakes some actors go through to prepare for a part and the question of identity in that context and raises serious questions around the gender politics of severe misogyny and the resulting danger faced by street sex workers in a largely unregulated industry. The script is inspired by the French New Wave in particular Godard and Chabrol.
