Ahmed ElSheikh
Freelance Egyptian Journalist
My journey begins in “The Egyptian Revolution” in 2011, at this point I used my mobile phone to document the police brutality against the demonstrators. On the 28th of January, also known as “Friday of Anger”, I lost my left eye as security forces were targeted photographers filming the protests.
I started my official journalism work mid 2013
in Syria when I was a fixer with New York Times. When I got back to Egypt, I was trained as a Investigative Journalist in ON TV channel with Yosri Fouda.
In 2014,
I was part of BBC’s Ann Korb Festival and my report Eye Of The Revolution was selected in the top five in the Middle East for the Citizen Journalism category.
Between 2015 - 2017,
I worked with Al Araby TV Network & France 24
as a Investigative Reporter and a Documentary Scriptwriter.
My first experience as a Video Journalist was with Masrawy in 2018.
Today,
I’m still working with Masrawy & many international organisations as a freelance like:
BBC - France 24 - France 2 - ARTE - UN
Danish Broadcasting...etc
