Ace Kazkayasi (she/her) is a francophone Turkish narrative writer & director based in Toronto, Canada. A quadrilingual director who grew up under French education and immigrated to Canada at 16, she creates films that reflect the multiple cultures she has experienced.
Her film "Pencere" (The Window) about child marriages in Turkey won the Spirit of Dufferin Award, top prize at the 2025 Dufferin Film Festival, and was featured in the 2025 WIFT Toronto Showcase. The same year, her follow-up short Breath premiered at the Reelworld Film Festival – an Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television qualifying event – gaining industry recognition.
A ScreenCraft Drama Writing Semi-Finalist in 2022, Ace has earned support from the Ontario Arts Council and ArtReach for her work, which has screened at festivals including IFFSA Toronto, the Regina International Film Festival, and TIFF Next Wave’s Open Screen. She has also directed commissioned projects for clients such as The Salvation Army.
Ace holds an HBSc in Mathematics and completed POV’s Media Training Program. She is a JAYU alumna, an active member of WIFT and Workman Arts. Ace is passionate about crafting poignant, emotionally resonant films which tackle pressing human issues, focusing on mental health, women's rights, and social challenges.
Her stories feature strong female protagonists and world issues such as mental health, sexual abuse, dehumanization, abortions rights, and women’s rights. Her work has an underlying focus on philosophical themes.
She started her career in film by working as an assistant director in short films and web series. Ace’s biggest goal in life is to be able to make people feel seen through her films.
