Abid Ali Mir is a Kashmir-based writer, poet, broadcaster, and independent storyteller whose work explores themes of human dignity, conflict, identity, environmental conservation, and social resilience. With a background in sociology, media studies, and journalism, he combines literary expression with visual and narrative storytelling.
Born and raised in Srinagar, Kashmir, Mir's creative work is deeply influenced by the region's culture, landscapes, and lived experiences. His writings, including the book A War Already Lost, examine memory, trauma, hope, and the human condition. Alongside his literary pursuits, he has been actively involved in environmental advocacy, particularly in raising awareness about the conservation of Kashmir's wetlands and natural heritage.
As the Founding Director of The Radio Anchar, radio professional, and content creator, Mir is deeply passionate about documentary storytelling, short films, and projects that amplify underrepresented voices. His work seeks to bridge art, social consciousness, the financial struggles of vulnerable communities, and environmental responsibility, creating narratives that resonate across cultures and communities.
Actively engaged with the local community of Anchar, he has been at the forefront of efforts aimed at the restoration and protection of Anchar Lake. Driven solely by commitment and public interest, he invests his own resources to raise awareness about environmental challenges and advocate for sustainable solutions.
Mir strongly believes that the restoration of Anchar Lake can transform the socio-economic landscape of the region. According to him, a revived lake would create sustainable livelihood opportunities for many unemployed youth through the cultivation of nadru (lotus stem), fisheries, vegetable farming, and other lake-based economic activities. His vision extends beyond environmental conservation, focusing equally on community empowerment and economic self-reliance.
Over the years, he has earned the trust and support of the Anchar community, whose livelihoods are directly dependent on the lake and its ecosystem. Their encouragement and participation have strengthened his resolve to continue advocating for the protection and revival of this vital water body.
Using GPS-tagged evidence and on-ground documentation, Mir has escalated numerous environmental concerns through the grievance mechanism of Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, contributing significantly to environmental cleanliness and public accountability. His independent efforts align with the vision of the Swachh Bharat Mission, despite receiving no institutional or organizational support.
His dedication to environmental conservation is unwavering. Through The Radio Anchar and its online UK-based radio platform, he has created a powerful voice for neglected water bodies, environmental issues, and community concerns. He regularly documents and shares the impact of his work through The Radio Anchar Facebook page, inspiring citizens to become active participants in protecting their surroundings.
A true changemaker, Mir firmly believes that while entertainment may bring temporary joy, it is the environment that ultimately shapes and sustains our lives. His mission is simple yet profound: to give a voice to nature, empower communities, and leave a cleaner, healthier world for future generations.
