"Why document the truth?"

This is the question at the heart of 3 Generations' filmmaking work, and now we hope it will inspire you to create.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 26, and you are interested in exploring human rights through filmmaking, we want to hear what documenting the truth means to you.

Your submission doesn't have to be a documentary, but can answer the question in the form of a TikTok, a poetry reading, a music video, a short narrative film, or any other format you are inspired by. We seek work that will have impact and engage young people in changing the world.

Qualifying videos must be between 45 seconds and 5 minutes in length. They must in some way reflect the prompts and contain original work.

The 3 Generations Video Youth Contest culminates in an online film festival where all short-listed films will be presented to audiences free of charge. Participants will have their work judged by celebrated documentary filmmakers, producers, and critics.

Two cash prizes of $500 each will be awarded to winners during the festival.

3 Generations wants this contest to reach as many filmmakers as possible. Please share with your communities, and on social media. We seek diverse submissions representing multiple worldviews and cultural backgrounds.

3 Generations is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that documents atrocities and explores human rights through film. Our award-winning feature documentary Tricked offers the definitive portrait of sex trafficking in America today. The culmination of three years of filming in cities across the country, Tricked chronicles the brutal world of trafficking in cities such as Boston, Denver, Las Vegas, Orange County, Los Angeles and New York.

Please contact us through Instagram (@3_generations) or Facebook (@3Generations) if you have any questions. You can also email us at videocontest@3generations.org.

There will be two $500 cash prizes in the following categories:

Judges Choice: A prize decided by the judges of the contest.

Viewers Choice: A prize voted on by the public.

Judge Criteria

Judges will check for adherence to these Rules, including eligibility, compliance with all terms (copyright regulations, conduct, etc.), film length, format, and age restrictions. Films will be judged by a panel of artists, civic leaders and industry professionals and evaluated by the quality and content of the film and its ability to educate, inspire, and raise awareness of the film’s topic.

Our judges are established documentary filmmakers and producers including Margaret Byrne, Shirah Dedman, Jasmina Bojic, and Mary Skinner.

Each entry will be judged on its own merit, based on the established criteria.

I was thrilled to be a part of this year's 3 Generations Video Contest. It is such an important organization, doing meaningful work and I love video contests wherein the creators are posed a question and have to construct a piece of art to express themselves. This festival was even more meaningful to me because my grand-father, and three great-uncles all served in the Second World War for Canada and helped free The Netherlands from Nazi Occupation. I couldn't help but feel I'm paying a small tribute to them with my video. So thank you 3 Generations for providing this outlet. I highly recommend this festival to anyone with an interest in global issues. I can't wait until next year!
