The right candidate may have certain requirements waived at the discretion of the Festival Directors. Please email info@140arts.org if you would like clarification if your film would be disqualified if you do not meet all of the following criteria before submitting.
.) Shorts must be fairly family friendly; any shorts considered more adult themed than your average "PG-13" film will not be chosen.
.) Entries must be local to New England. The ideal candidate will either be a local filmmaker who currently resides or previously resided here, has gone to a local college, or the script and shooting locations are local with local crew being utilized. It is a bonus to be more localized to central Massachusetts as that short would qualify to be programmed in a "locals" block assuming all other requirements are met.
.) Accepted entries are highly encouraged to have the attendance of at least one local filmmaker for the Q&A, whether that is the director, writer, actor, or a producer.
.) Deliverable film should be a H264.mp4 in Stereo with a maximum of 10GB. Standby for updates from the venue if 5.1 is available. Do not submit hard copies of films (DVDs, ect.). They will not be returned.
.) Applicants hold the sole responsibility of copyright clearance of any copyrighted material in the film. Do not submit films that have copyrighted material you do not have clearance for. This requirement will not be waived.
.) We ask that Students who make or have made their short for a school project or college credit, please submit to the "Student" category. Students who have made their short in their free time for zero academic credit have the opportunity to submit to either category of their choosing, but please note the submissions for the General Category will be held to higher standards.
.) Films not in English must be subtitled in English unless dialogue is minimal and not necessary for the comprehension of the film. Subtitles should make best efforts to follow ADA recommended guidelines.
.) Acceptance of a film does not guarantee airline or hotel accommodations for talent or producing crew.
.) Festival attendance is open to the public and therefor all films are subject to possible public publicity, media, and reviews from third parties.
* There will be no refunds for rejected submissions.
