Yang is an examination of evil, its essence, and the visual representation of it through the creative mediums. It is a short film in form, but also acts as a visual essay and high-art piece in spirit. With the film, I attempted to show evil not as opposed to good, but a necessity in the balance of morality, taking on the name Yang to directly reference the ideas of the yin yang symbol. The format of the film directly stems from the notion of a cyclic duality, of good and evil marked by the other; the women, seemingly innocent, perform a dark prayer circle as opposed to the grace and beauty of the dark evil spirits. Yang is a bold statement, one that delves deep into the sub-conscious and plays with those inert feelings of apprehension and fear when faced with the dark, that minute moment you enter a dark room and for a second imagine infinite horror and creatures before the lights turn on to reveal nothing is really there.
