We're in quarantine
The video intends to function as a call for awakening amidst the disaster we are living and impels towards the acceptance of responsibility in terms of the life stance each one of us employs; aiming to make use of the current coronavirus crisis as an occasion for reflection - in order to prevent the reduction of our realities and societies into a dystopia.

.
Starting point in my thinking was my wish to create a work which provides a bird’s-eye view to the current paradigm shifting event of the coronavirus pandemic.
The video was created during spring time/lockdown time, making use of the material added each day by the various news feeds with the intention to synthesize a critique and view that lies beyond the time of current events by incorporating mythical/symbolical elements of timeless nature. Fire and water, used symbolically, permeate the nature of things -both alive and inanimate- and the quest is just this: how to keep these opposite forces of creation (and destruction) under balance.
.
Structurally the video is built in three parts (marked by the corresponding excerpts of the awesome and oh-so-relevant Bill Viola’s installation of 2004 “The Raft”)
* before the disaster (at least as we in our anthropocentric perception would define it, meaning that the planet was collapsing, but as long as we felt safe within our fake individualities all was well)
* during the disaster, and
* after the disaster
So, the question is what we are doing now. The video shows what is currently happening and proposes elevated awareness and solidarity as the answer. Me, as a creator, I doubt if we as a species will rise above and evade our self-destruction, but in terms of our individual lives I suggest that we accept our responsibility to prevent the reduction of our societies and realities into a dystopia.
