A Mina

"A Mina" is a Film that explores the role occupied by Women in Tango, through the Lunfardo language. The Video expands a performance in public space into an art film. The Audiovisual Document reveals important identity issues to women from Buenos Aires.

Award Winning Best Female Director at International Festival BA Non Stop 2016. More than 50 Screenings at International Festivals and Art Spaces from: Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Perú, Colombia, México, Canada, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, India and Germany.

The Realization
It is an audiovisual research, written and realized by the Argentinian artist Maria Papi. The film features the performance of German actress Gesche Picolin – and his translation of the text to German -. Original music and sound design are by Argentine composer Carlos Páez with musical performance and arrangements by Argentine bandoneon player Pablo Gignoli from his studio in Paris, France.

A question of Identity / Poetics of exploitation.
We, the Argentine women, mostly daughters and granddaughters of European immigrants, a century later, look into our history and reflect about it. The figure of the German actress, Gesche Picolin, inevitably crosses the image of an archetypal character of the brothel, the milonga and the tango: an european immigrant woman who, like many, came to our country with promises of new world. The Stories behind, the dark place of tango, is through the Traffic in Women in a miserable and cruel Buenos Aires.

EXPANDED CINEMA
This film displays two resources that shape the dynamics: a record of performance art - urban intervention and a research paper on "the words of lunfardo to refer to women" (the author's presentation "WOMAN of LUNFARDO WORDS" was published in the book of the International Festival MICGenero Mexico - Argentina).
