Director Biography - George ve Gänæaard, Horia Cucută

George ve Gänæaard is a film director, writer and producer, born in 1984. He first got his degree in Sociology, in Bucharest, and studied Film and Television in United Kingdom, at Aberystwyth University.
George has worked as part of the crew on films like DOMESTIC (2011), THE DITCH (2012), ART (2013), ILLEGITIMATE (2015), FIXEUR (2016), A DECENT MAN (2018) and 5 MINUTES LATER (2019).
Recently, George has directed FLUNKED (2020) a short film that has been selected at TIFF 2020, among other festivals.

Horia Cucută is a DYI filmmaker based in Bucharest, Romania. He got his degree in Marketing and worked as a multimedia designer for different advertising companies. In the past four years he has been a collaborator with mc² film, having different crew roles: editor, animator, digital imaging technician, on-set photographer, producer and director.

Recently, George and Horia have directed three short films, AMERICA (2019), MOTHERS (2020) and THANK YOU FOR YOUR TEETH! (2020), with 100+ festival selections around the world and 18 awards in the United States, Spain, Romania, Greece, Colombia, Iran and Poland.
At the moment, George and Horia are in pre-production with their first feature film, THE INTERVENTION.

Director Statement

The mc² film collective was started with cinema in our minds and hearts. It was a way to make films by ourselves, without having to wait for bigger production companies to validate our ideas, way of seeing the world, feelings and passion. We've started making films based on our screenplays, but soon started being curious about what other people from around the world might be writing, might be creating from their imagination. That's why we created our screenwriting contest, in 2017, with the main prize being our promise to turn the winning screenplay into a film.

For its second edition, in 2017, Ron's AMERICA was by far the best script we have received, catching our attention from the first words on the page. The film we made ended up playing at 30+ festival around the world and winning 6 awards and prizes in the United States, Spain, Romania and Greece.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TEETH! is our second collaboration with Ron and our second animated film.
