Director Statement

This film is simple in its basis, a story of man who fights against all odds to survive. It was conjured out of a combination of our current economic crisis and the American defiance to stand up to it. The Nothing Man started out as a feature length script idea I had as far back as 2006, but never really came to fruition. I wanted to tell a tale of a longshoreman’s survival on the docks, as the stock market crashes and the depression begins. I started writing, but the project went on hiatus due to various other things I had in the works. A few years later I was attempting to direct a big budget boxing picture, however the funding eventually feel through on it. I had worked hard in the last two or three years trying to get the funding together, the characters and the costumes, but it just for some reason didn’t want to work for me. I was feeling depressed and though I was left with nothing, so I was kicking around trying to figure out what I could do next. I found an old flash drive with some scripts I had written before and in it was a script called The Nothing Man, as I began to read it, I realized this was it, the next picture I would be making. After months of revisions I had finally put a script together. After casting my film and getting locations together, the film was finally in the works in December 2008 and finished in January 2010. A simple tale of one man’s survival during one of the hardest times in American history.
