Daniel Hooper is a writer and 'edutainer' from Dyersburg, Tennessee. He has been a classroom educator since 1987 and was a touring stand up comedian from 1989 until 2000. He also wrote the comedy/spiritual novel, 'Seven Days with the Hypocrites'. That novel was the inspiration for his eight episode sitcom, 'The Hypocrites'. From that series Daniel wrote and directed four short films and an additional eight shorts that were co-produced, filmed and edited by The Attention Company. Daniel's screenplay writing style was influenced by shows such as Arrested Development , Everybody Hates Chris and My Name is Earl. These shows have a narrator or narration as part of the script and story flow. His ambition is to make art that creates laughter and provokes thought.
I became a Christian and a comedian in 1989. Having grown up in church and having visited different churches and church events, I had a stark revelation ... these people aren't perfect for the most part. Having performed in comedy clubs, bars and casinos around the country, I had another stark revelation ... these are nice people for the most part. As I got older I realized these two worlds of 'light' and 'darkness' have some things in common. My goal in creating this story and these characters was to show Christians and church people a side of life that wasn't church-like and to show people that live and work in what could be sinful situations that church people are as prone to imperfection as anyone. Using humor and appropriate dialog, I attempted to introduce these worlds to each other and we realize that we may all be looking into mirrors.
