The Rope
Based on a true story told by historian Gerald O'Brien from Skibbereen in West Cork, Ireland while on residency at Uillinn. It concerns the the fate of a small farmer, called to "the big city" as a juror in a murder trial — the experience and its outcome lays heavily upon his conscious and ultimately his own life. The narrative is focused on the river itself, the Ilen, and its granular canvas of lives and stories. The tension of eddies and spirals, the tidal and none tidal connect as a thread, a rope, strung with personality, both in the textured lives of its people and in the remote land that winds with it to the sea.
