Mateusz has graduated from the prestigious Polish Film School in Lodz. He got the chance to develop his natural talent in the cinematography as well as directing field there. His school etudes were the ones most awarded at international festivals. Mateusz finds his greatest strength in cinema close to human emotions and experiences. He captures in his images things that cannot be put into words. Focused on set, and attentive to details Mateusz becomes an invisible witness to actions and stories of his many documentary heroes. He loves to travel and combine this passion with his work. Then he becomes a truly fulfilled artist. Previously, he earned his degree in Journalism and Social Communication from the Jagiellonian University, he was also a student at the Film Department of the Edinburgh College of Art.
In the picture we aimed telling the story with the character's emotions. The team was playing after a major loss in the Olimpic's. We knew that this is the last tournament of the coach and couple of the major players. We were incredibly lucky to be in the decisivie moments of people who were close together like a family.
My main inspiration was the Polish documentary school and and the French New Wave.
The film was shot mostly handheld with long lenses - 100 mm and 135 - we wanted to be as close to the characters as possible, without disturbing their process.
