Akansha Tiwari is a wildlife filmmaker from India who works on stories that highlight local voices and initiatives.
Her recent projects have documented marine conservation, mental health, the COVID pandemic, big cats facing habitat encroachment and the fishing industry. As a part of the impact campaigns of these projects, she has been working with different stakeholders to bring about awareness and policy change towards the issues her films document.
They are currently looking at solutions to the problem of marine debris and producing projects that promote inclusive storytelling. She has two organizations she represents, namely Tangled Seas working on ghost gear and Ocean Ally Foundation, working on United Nations' SDG14
Tangled Seas is India's first film on ghost nets and was crowdfunded. The aim of this film since it was/is the first one of its kind for this landscape is to create awareness and initiate change regarding this conservation issue.
We currently have an impact campaign in place that has been active from 2020 after filming was over and have a petition as well as a repository both of which can be accessed on our website TangledSeas.org
This project was made sourcing footage, filming on DSLRs, phone cameras and in-built recorders because of the nature of this topic and the controversies associated with the fisheries sector. The story was the priority. You will understand more about what we mean once you watch the film or read up more about it.
Tangled Seas is a 30min long film.
It is a little information heavy so you are free to watch it in pauses :) .
The film looks at the opinions of various stakeholders that are affected and dependent on ocean ecology and this conservation issue.
Please do not circulate the film without permission.
You can however put photographs of your screen with shots from the film on your social media if you wish to do so with the Hashtag #CareForFishingGear and tag our account @tangled.seas (Instagram) or 'Tangled Seas' (Facebook) to it
Thank you for your interest in the film.
