Tailor Made
Tailor Made is a 12-minute documentary about the passion and perseverance of Tam Nguyen, a refugee from Vietnam who came to Canada in the ‘80s as part of the Vietnamese “boat people” and used his masterful tailoring skills to craft a new life for himself and many others. As October 2023 marks 43 years since Tam's arrival in Canada, Tailor Made captures his reflections on his life's journey and how he fulfilled a promise to dedicate his life to helping others.

Only recently have I begun to contemplate my decision to leave home eight years ago in pursuit of a better future in Canada. Throughout my upbringing, I was taught to view those who ran away after the war as shameful. However, meeting Tam, who embarked on that very journey, has completely shattered that misconception. Working alongside him to share his story has instilled in me a newfound pride in my own journey. I deeply admire his bravery, resilience, and the sacrifices he made, abandoning all safety nets for a new life on the other side of the world. His story truly encapsulates the immigrant experience, and I hope this movie can inspire viewers to feel the same way.
