I am a self-taught filmmaker based in Christchurch (previously in Dunedin), New Zealand. My interest in making films professionally began in 1992, but at that time, it wasn't feasible. Despite studying engineering, working at a university, and advocating for healthcare regulations, I continued filming for my friends.
In 2018, I realised that my passion for filmmaking had not waned. I began immersing myself in books and articles on screenwriting, directing, editing, lighting, sound design, and camera operation. In 2020, I moved to Aotearoa New Zealand.
In 2023, I created my first short film for submission to film festivals. This film, "Relocation," tells the story of a Ukrainian family's relocation to New Zealand during the early weeks of the war. I have little experience behind me, but I see that now I can fulfil my childhood dream of making good films without any fear.
I hope that one day, looking back and remembering myself at the age of 5, when I first wanted to make cinema my profession, and going through all the past years, I will say: "this little maneuver cost me 51 years."
