Experiencing Interruptions?

Summer Interlude

In the final week of summer, a film school reject must choose between his parents' wishes and the path of a free-spirited girl he just met.

Set in a small coastal Maine tourist town, Summer Interlude follows Levi, a recent high school graduate and aspiring filmmaker as he navigates the college transition, chasing his dreams, and outgrowing his parents' wishes, all in a few short days.

After receiving a rejection letter from film school, Levi spends the summer working at his parents' campground, dreading the fall. Without an out-of-state college as his chance to escape the small town, he must enroll in the local community college, forcing two more years stuck in the same "run-down tourist trap" (his words) that he's been in his whole life.

With a week left until classes start, he runs into Sarah, a classmate who's taking an alternative approach to college. As the two get to know each other, Levi faces a decision between chasing his dreams and obeying his parents' wishes, taking it to the final hours as the summer sun sets.

Director Biography - Alex Lucier

Alex Lucier is a Massachusetts-based filmmaker and creative whose work is deeply rooted in the authentic experiences of his generation. A 2025 communications graduate of Worcester State University, Alex is the writer, director, and producer of his debut feature film, Summer Interlude.

Summer Interlude originated in a college scriptwriting class, born from Alex’s desire to capture the "chaotic, uncertain, and urgent" emotions of the college transition in today's world - while the wounds are still fresh. At just nineteen years old, Alex successfully led a crowdfunding campaign that raised over $10,000 to bring this vision to life, filming on location across New England at historic and iconic spots like the Blue Moon Diner and York's Wild Kingdom.

Driven by the belief that stories about young people should be told by those living them, Alex’s directorial style focuses on raw, Gen-Z authenticity. Through Summer Interlude, he aims to bridge generational gaps and provide a unique perspective on the polarizing experience of growing up in the 2020s.

Director Statement

Summer Interlude is a coming-of-age film about young people, created by young people, for young people.

Spiraling from a college scriptwriting class, this feature was a vision that I knew I needed to bring to life from the first few pages that I wrote.

Summer Interlude is derived from the experiences and emotions that my peers and I've felt navigating the college transition, with just enough time removed to process while still preserving the authenticity and rawness of the memories. They've been recreated on the screen in a way that feels as chaotic, uncertain, and urgent as they do in real life.

This film encapsulates universally-relatable feelings, while still accurately illustrating the Generation-Z experience in today's world. It's a story that needs to be told - an opportunity to start a conversation, both inter- and intra-generational about what it's like to live in the polarizing and confusing time that is the 2020's.

Finally, there's no better time than right now. The chance to write a script and bring it to the big screen at the age of nineteen is quite literally once in a lifetime. While there are films out there made about young people, it's almost never people their age making them. My point of view and perspective at this age on this topic is truly unique in the industry, leaving this feature in a position to resonate with others with a lasting impact in the years to come.

At its core, this film has been a chance to break everything I’ve ever thought creatively possible and create something that can truly only be made right now, all while the perspective, story, and experience are still relevant and important in today's conversations.
