Director Statement

stole youth is a narrative born out of the aggressions Black folk can experience their entire lives, within and outside their respective communities. It is a resistance to the expectation to be grateful in the face of discrimination and harassment, due to colonial consequences that are still active today. The film uses the collective histories of the cast and crew, drawing on their experiences of being persecuted at first sight by their appearances as Black folk and people of colour, to allow this story to celebrate a triumph that is long overdue. Hopefully it is one of many more to come.
