Director Biography - Fernando Mol

Nací en la ciudad de Monterrey, México, en 1971. Realicé mi primer cortometraje durante mis años universitarios y desde entonces he colaborado en proyectos con amigos en Sonora, Ciudad de México y Monterrey. Como director, he realizado documentales en apoyo a causas y proyectos artísticos. Ahora, en mis cincuentas, aspiro a presentar mi trabajo en festivales de cine, distanciándome de los rígidos estándares de la producción comercial, para explorar temas con un interés personal.

I was born in the city of Monterrey, Mexico, in 1971. I made my first short film during my university years and since then I have collaborated on various projects with friends in Sonora, Mexico City, and Monterrey. As a director, I have created documentaries in support of causes and artistic projects of friends and colleagues. Now, in my fifties, I aspire to showcase my work at film festivals, distancing myself from the rigid standards of commercial production to offer something more personal.

Director Statement

Para este cortometraje me inspiré en la simplicidad poética del estilo del director iraní Abbas Kiarostami. Trabajé con mi familia, grabando en el la casa de mi madre. Mis sobrinas leyeron el guion y dejé que cada una eligiera su propio personaje y la ropa que traerían puesta. Dado que pronto se venderá la casa, aproveché el proyecto para hacer una reflexión introspectiva sobre el lugar donde crecí.

I created this short film, inspired by the poetic simplicity of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami's style. I collaborated with my family, filming at my mother's house. My nieces read the script, chose their own characters, and decided what outfits to wear. With the house soon to be sold, I used this project as an opportunity to reflect introspectively on the home where I grew up.
