Danilo Bjelica is a screenwriter and director born in Kotor, Montenegro in 1999. He is a final year student at Faculty of Media and Communications, Department for Digital Arts, Audio-visual techniques and media production, Screenwriting and Directing.
Danilo discovered his passion for film through written word, a great desire for novel writing transformed into film and art that manages to expand the written word. In his development as a screenwriter, he made the most progress in working with Professor Vuk Ršumović, who is also his mentor at university. He accepted the rules and forms and directed his ideas accordingly. Danilo is interested in dramas, both social and others. Through his work in screenplay writing, he holds the belief that an authentic world can be constructed, one that blurs the line between fiction and reality, allowing the stories we witness to come to life.
Through collaboration with colleagues, he participated in numerous short films during his years of study, while in his second year, he wrote the short film "The Verdict," which was supported by the Serbian Film Center. This was one of the first projects that opened the doors to this profession.
Danilo then wrote his graduate film "Home," a story based on a personal theme and a problem he observed during his upbringing. "Home" was also supported by the Serbian Film Center, as well as the municipality of Herceg Novi and the studio "HUB247."
Danilo is preparing for his graduation, which was awaited due to the film's post-production and the two-year duration of the project itself.
His plan for the future is to enroll in master's studies in film directing somewhere in Europe and to finalize his idea for his first feature-length film, which he is currently developing.
The story of the short film "Home" is a true memory of two wonderful people who left my life due to serious illnesses. My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's for years. During my chiledhood, the hardest thing for me was to see how my mother coped with it all. The struggle and daily care, and then the hardest parting in life for her, will forever remain a very important memory for me. On the other hand, a wonderful grandfather who raised me and taught me more or less everything I am today. Besides him, I felt even more powerless to feel, understand, and fight against the insidious disease he suffered from. My desire has always been to engage with them and their love that existed even through serious illnesses. The fear of passing and being forgotten, as well as painful partings, remained etched in my memory. Vladan is a strong man who feels everything, he was very prepared for everything in life, only he never imagined he would be left waiting for the end of life without Ruža. In memory of my grandmother, I devised a series of true situations, such as the scene of a fire caused unconsciously by Ruža. She does her best to become more aware of her condition but fails. Things are familiar to her when touched and seen, but her new reality easily fades away. Striking reactions and movements, a childlike gaze and unawareness of the moment, as well as enjoyment in it.
This story has been in my head for a long time, and I couldn't give it a name. I think that's also the reason why the title is so universal. Like the name, home can be anywhere, as long as home doesn't become a person, then it's just beside her.
