A Chelyabinsk business top-dog Eduard Ivanovich is drawn into an unhumorous dispute. Within a short time he is to come up with a series script, which should become of interest to a Moscow producer. Having lost the bet, he will lose part of his business. According to the rules of the hustle, he is provided with two said-to-be scriptwriters. Craftily, Eduard deceives them into a non-stop work in the café and being constantly monitored without even leaving the premise. The scriptwriters are the tomboyish delivery girl and the senescent romance novelist who hate one another but are both strapped for money. They live through creative and personal torments and joys under the supervision of Eduard's assistant Irina. As the twosome makes up the situations for the series we watch them played out. Scenes of Sasha and those of Ivan are distinctly different in characters, mood, style, music and dialogues. So called scriptwriters struggle to agree with each other and they argue a lot. When the script is ready, Eduard Ivanovich wins the dispute but winds up in jail, while famous Fyodor Bondarchuk gets interested in the script.
