Second Honeymoon
Newlyweds Jesper and Agnes are spending their honeymoon at the beautiful lakeside home of Jesper’s uncle Harry, deep in sun-drenched Portugal. Free-spirited artist Agnes, sensitive and vulnerable, is determined to persuade her emotionally repressed new husband to open up. As they explore the idyllic countryside, the picturesque villages and the stunning beaches together, their happiness is threatened by Jesper’s memories of an earlier, similar holiday. Who is the woman in the painting Agnes glimpses at a gallery, wearing a necklace just like hers?

Kristjan was born in Denmark to an English mother and a Danish father. He grew up in the Algarve in southern Portugal, attending boarding school in the UK in his teens. He moved to the Netherlands in his early twenties.
Working in the film industry in Amsterdam provided Kristjan with the opportunity to work in many departments within the film business. He has worked professionally all over the world: camera crew, art department. production manager, electrical unit, grip, special effects and 1st Assistant Director. In 2004 he took the plunge and decided to direct. To date he has made short films, commercials, corporates, music videos and a full length documentary. In the Spring of 2010 he joined MacGyver Amsterdam to direct commercials. In 2014 he completed his first feature film, The Right Juice. Second Honeymoon is his second feature.
In making Second Honeymoon I wanted to explore a different approach to long-form film creation than Is the norm. The story was devised and written on location, in collaboration with the actors, myself and the writer.
The idea was to allow the environment we found ourselves in, as well as the dynamic and energy between the actors, director and writer as people, to inspire and shape the narrative. As the writing progressed, the actors became the characters, which influenced the writing, and the writing influenced the characters in return. During shooting the characters and story evolved further, and using a combination of tight scene writing, improvisation and trust in the process a deeply personal and emotional story emerged.
The process of creating this film was one of the most collaborative and creatively fulfilling journeys I have ever experienced.
From the lessons we learned we are turning the process we developed into a filmmaking method, which we're calling the Longship method. The Longship was the vessel that transported the Vikings all over the known world. The were small, fast, versatile ships, manned by war parties consisting of Viking warriors who had to multitask and show extreme flexibility and collaboration.
