Andrew Kamel is an Egyptian-Lebanese-American writer, musician, actor, and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris who, by this point, has made two vastly different films: 'The Adventures of Dalmaddin,' a B-movie-style comedy that satirizes Arabian Nights exploitation films and 'seaside azan (for a lover of pearl),' a more solemn piece in the form of a Sufi mystic film poem that peers in on the chauvinistic double standards within the hegemonic framework of fundamentalist Islam. He has brought 'seaside azan' to many festivals across the world in cities such as New York, Paris, Cannes, Istanbul, Beirut and Cairo, some of which presented him with awards. 'seaside azan' was, most notably, included in the 2023 Festival de Cannes Court Métrage Selection. Otherwise, Kamel has acted in various short films.
Kamel also works in other mediums, such as writing prose and poetry and playing the oud and piano. First and foremost, Kamel is a singer-songwriter. Kamel released his debut album 'dreaming' on July 26, 2024 and is working on a forthcoming full-length record.
Kamel attended UCLA for a B.A. in Medieval/Early Modern History and The New School in New York City for an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction/Poetry), where he is currently pursuing a Philosophy Ph.D. and teaching English.
