Law students of Leiden and Sarajevo universities discover that for Srebrenica's genocide survivors justice is not only about legal accountability, rather also about recognition of genocide.

Director Biography - Ado Hasanović

Ado Hasanovic is a Bosnian film director based in Rome. He was born in 1986 in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He served as the Artistic Director of the Srebrenica Short Film Festival, "Srebrena Traka (2008-2011). A 2008 Berlinale Talents Sarajevo alumnus, in 2010, he finished the Norwegian Nansen Academy focused on interethnic dialogue and later studied Directing at the Sarajevo Film Academy, from which he graduated with the short film "Mama" in 2013.

In January 2014, he enrolled in the prestigious Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia National Film School in Rome, where he specialized as a film director. In 2017 he finished a Master's in Dramaturgy as a guest student at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. His short films The Angel of Srebrenica (2010), Blue Viking in Sarajevo (2012), Mama (2013), Breath of Life Srebrenica (2015), Pink Elephant (2017), Nomophobia (2019) and Let There Be Colour (2020) enjoyed worldwide festival selections and won many international awards.

He is also the creator of Cortovisioni - How To Make A Short Film, a workshop format in which he teaches how to make a short film from the subject up to the post-production, and since 2015 he has been the Artistic Director of the Mediterranean Short Film Festival The Author's Passages in Sant'Antioco, Italy.
Ado recently completed his debut documentary, "My Father's Diaries", produced by Palomar (Italy) & Mediawan (France).

Director Statement

ENGLISH:
My goal with this film goes beyond exploring the themes related to the Srebrenica genocide. Through "Searching for Justice," I aim to attain a form of personal justice for the profound losses my family has endured in the Bosnian War. At the same time, I seek to shed light on the stories of the individuals I interview in the film, providing them with the opportunity to share their experiences and ensuring that their voices are heard. The realization of this film represents a personal and artistic commitment to contribute to collective understanding, historical memory, and the process of individual and collective healing.

Il mio obiettivo con questo film va oltre l'esplorazione dei temi legati al genocidio di Srebrenica. Attraverso "Searching for Justice," mirò a ottenere una forma di giustizia personale per le profonde perdite che la mia famiglia ha subito durante la guerra in Bosnia. Allo stesso tempo, cerco di portare alla luce le storie delle persone che intervisto nel film, offrendo loro l'opportunità di condividere le loro esperienze e assicurandomi che le loro voci siano ascoltate. La realizzazione di questo film rappresenta un impegno personale e artistico per contribuire alla comprensione collettiva, alla memoria storica e al processo di guarigione individuale e collettiva.
