Private Project

Surrounded by Colors We Could No Longer See

This experimental short film is a flowing dreamscape of fragments, images, and afterimages - a terrain of memory as corporeal as it is optical. This diaristic personal film passages through spaces of the filmmaker's family history, where the desert becomes a collection zone for scattered pieces.

Director Biography - Abinadi Meza

Abinadi Meza is a Latinx-Indigenous (Otomí - México) filmmaker and artist whose practice investigates the intersection of architecture, phenomenology, and the materiality of the moving image. His work is defined by a "Total Work" approach to 16mm film and sound mass, utilizing direct, cameraless processes to create non-representational sensory experiences.

Over a career spanning two decades, his films have been showcased at premier international festivals including Transmediale/CTM (Berlin), Kassel Dokfest, Beijing International Short Film Festival, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Aesthetica (UK), alongside specialized experimental venues such as Crossroads (San Francisco), Antimatter (Victoria BC), Analogica (Italy), Light Matter, RPM, and Anthology Film Archives.

A Rome Prize Fellow in Visual Art, Meza’s work has been presented at leading international institutions including the Walker Art Center, MAXXI (Rome), Irish Museum of Modern Art, Wexner Center for the Arts, and the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. His focus on the "Sonic Atmosphere" of the image has earned awards including Best Soundtrack at the 2024 Ribalta Experimental Film Festival and critical acclaim in Afterimage and desistfilm. He holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota and an M.Arch in Media & Theory from SCI-Arc.
