Return to the Pleasure Dome

High octane erotic dancing to a gritty rockabilly tune as she dances against a blinding light to a Tiki theme backdrop.
An unnatural menacing force glares upon the vixen. Aware, she still dances.
Madness ensues as the surreal and nightmarish event unfolds setting the stage for the question of whats real and whats not. Who does she dance for? Is it a dream or hallucination?

Director Statement

Inspired by Kenneth Anger's 1954 cult classic "The Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome", photographer Robert Lang presents the short film "Return to the Pleasure Dome" as a homage to the classic and envisions his own version of events to the paraquel.

As in most of Anger's films, he leaves the interpretation to the viewer for arts sake as Robert hopes to convey this to the audience. Robert toils with the idea of occultism that was a major theme from the original which featured ceremonial masks and drugged-up lusty creatures as subliminal symbols appear and vanish. Like the laughing monsters from the film who emerge and disappear out of view it takes center stage here in the short

Like Anger, Lang is inspired by sleazy Hollywood and its pure grit and grime and love for Grind House cinema which touches slightly on the aesthetic of the film
"I didn't want to borrow or copy the entire aesthetic but more take on the idea of a paraquel"
