reMemBer2.human
In an indeterminate future, forbidden memories challenge "The Collective Memory" - a database containing all human memories. But which are the memories that are challenging?
An experimental cinematic search between past, and future, fiction, and fact, Prishtina and Tirana. The future, a glitch.

Durim Klaiqi is a self-taught experimental filmmaker and graphic designer from Prishtina. He began his creative path in 2017 through Samsung’s Galaxy Themes partnership and later graduated in Integrated Design with a focus on graphic design. In 2020, he expanded into video editing, combining visual communication with moving images.
His debut short film, reMemBer2.human, an experimental sci-fi film with a €0 budget, was screened at festivals such as Vienna Shorts, DokuFest and TIFF, winning acclaim and awards. He then created the experimental documentary “The Goddess on the Throne”, which also premiered at DokuFest and TIFF.
He also created the experimental documentary PART OF THE SYSTEM, which is awaiting its world premiere, and is currently developing a new project, Crow Funeral.
In addition to filmmaking, he has participated in and given guest lectures in workshops and masterclasses, where new technologies such as 3D reconstruction and machine learning are central themes, further expanding his research into experimental narratives, memory, technology and hybrid visual forms.
I find myself changing the director's statement for this project too often as my feelings for it change as much as the film itself does but nonetheless...
The sci-fi genre compared to fantasy has always felt closer to reality than the complete fiction that a fantasy film can be. Every story feels closer to the truth and the sci-fi genre itself has been (at least to me) about our ambitions. Dreams and ambitions, things we can build together for our future. But in the case of this film the dream here represents ambition that is turned into a nightmare, and that nightmare is called technocracy.
During the peak popularity of generative AI, when everyone was talking about the "democratization of art" because of this technology, I went on a quest to research how it exactly works and find a deeper truth to it. Stable Diffusion being open-source was a perfect specimen. Having read online forums and discussions about this topic, it eventually became clear that this technology is doing major moral violations. Because of this, I was curious to see how the world of art or in this case the world of cinema would react to a film that is mathematically ~50% real and ~50% AI-generated.
The film itself is supposed to represent something that is called a "latent space", which is a multi-dimensional abstract space which to me was the most interesting thing from the generative AI technology. The issue with multi-dimensional spaces is that our brains find them hard to comprehend and the only way to observe them, is through dimensionality reduction - therefore a lot of dimensions are lost, making it very nonsensical in a way.
Upon the conclusion of this little experiment/research, it is now very clear that most people cannot see past these technocratic promises and visions for a better future. The only ones who do, are the ones who were wronged by it.
The best way to understand the film is to feel the music, or at least try to understand the words of the author of the song (Fine Sir) that was used for the film (which coincidentally shares the same creation philosophy with the film):
“When I write my music I usually work on multiple parts of the song at the same time, letting them grow together naturally. This ends up creating a few very different sounding sections that are all connected through transitions. It also creates kind of a "stream of consciousness" effect where the music can jump from idea to idea very quickly.
The concept behind the title of the song ("Some Things I've Been Thinking About Lately") is the feeling of being overwhelmed by having too many different things on your mind, and needing to untangle your thoughts by writing down or blurting out everything that’s on your mind at once.
Having to navigate the complexities of your own thoughts can be a daunting process, but having complex thoughts and feelings is what it means to be human.”
