Heavens

Tired of the bureaucracy of the military, a Colonel returns home from a long mission. Soon he faces the same problems he knew from the military, when a golf ball hits him in the head and he ends up in an even bigger bureaucratic agency, called Heaven. There, heartless bureaucrats, angels, force him to choose his next life on earth as they're out of space in Paradise.

Director Biography - Jonas Schubach

Raised at Lake Constance in the Swiss Alps, Jonas has traveled far to pursue his MFA in Film Production at Florida State University.

After receiving his BA in TV Journalism from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and his MA in Film Production from the University of Memphis, Jonas is now pursuing his MFA at Florida State University, specializing in Cinematography.

Jonas is interested in stories that deal with the absurdity and meaning(lessness?) of life and he likes to explores these themes with irony in his comedies.

Jonas’ work has been broadcast on public television in Germany and in the United States and his narrative films have received recognitions in the Southeast, including the Indie Memphis Production Grant.

In his free time, Jonas plays Beatles songs on the guitar and the piano and pictures himself in a boat on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.

Director Statement

Good people will go to Heaven? What if you had to apply to get into paradise, like an immigrant to a different country? What if you had to prove your track record to qualify, even though there’s no hope for admission anyway? What if you could choose your next life on earth based on a couple of options a heartless case worker presents to you upon your decease?
We can’t escape our society’s bureaucracy on earth during our lifetime, and chances are that the torture will continue in Heaven.
Heavens is a dry satire about bureaucracy, immigration and governmental administration of human lives.
