Director Biography - Sapphire Medeema, Ceinwen Medeema

The Medeema twins are an emerging filmmaking duo originally from Manchester. They grew up unschooled in Wales, London and Devon, attending festivals and protests, and talking about stories.

Through the 19-25 Devon Film Fund 2024, they made their first narrative short A Year and A Minute, which went on to win the audience choice award at its premiere at Two Short Nights 2025, and has been included in several short film festivals over the last year.

Director Statement

Eggshell started as a short story Ceinwen wrote over several years, when combined with my desire to write stand-up, it became our second narrative short.
The experience of losing friendships to male notions of romance is something we both wanted to write about. Playing with the line between private thoughts and performed material appealed to us, as did a character attempting to refine the trauma of sexual harassment through the male dominated medium of stand-up comedy.
