Director Biography - Tibe Vanhaverbeke

From a young age, I have been passionate about film—a love I inherited from my father, who introduced me to the world of classic cinema. That passion made choosing to study at Narafi a natural step. During my studies, I discovered where my heart truly lies within the filmmaking process: directing and editing.

My exchange program at the School of Visual Arts in New York gave me the opportunity to further refine my directing skills under the guidance of experts with Hollywood experience. I also had the chance to apply my editing abilities in practice during my internship at DPG Media, where I was responsible for producing trailers broadcast on the VTM channels.

These experiences have only deepened my love for film and given me the confidence to continue developing my own voice as a filmmaker.

Director Statement

When I lost my dad, a part of me died with him. Suddenly, I had to step into the role of father figure in our family—adulthood was thrust upon me. It made me harder as a person, more rational. Sometimes I fear that I’ve had to give up too much of my youth, and when I think about the finality of life, it fills me with anxiety. With this film, we’re essentially stepping inside my mind. Some people have a diary, others a book of poetry—mine is 'Sterrenstof'.
